Team America: World Police Movie Review
Team America: World Police is a 2004 comedy film directed by Trey Parker. It’s such a good movie that isn’t great, but is still as funny as you would come to expect from this duo.

Yes, it’s weird how this flick isn’t more popular when it came from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. And yes, South Park is much better, at least those best seasons, but this film is also very strong too and I laughed out loud many times throughout its runtime as the jokes so pleasantly reminded me of classic South Park.
The plot itself is pretty good as the film is basically a parody of those clichéd action films of the eighties and nineties with a strong emphasis on US politics and their need to “save other countries” as well. It’s thus a reliably sophisticated commentary on their politics and a very grounded in reality one which isn’t too biased thankfully. The parodying of the action films also was well executed, though admittedly because I don’t like those, those jokes suited me the least. But the political and Hollywood ones are terrific.
I particularly loved their parodying of the romances and love triangles in those films, that was hilarious. Kim Jong-il is absolutely hilarious and what they did with his song and his speech pattern was very entertaining. I also loved their parodying of the various actors with Matt Damon being well scrutinized and their apparent hatred for ‘Pearl Harbor’ and Michael Bay cracked me up the most as it was simply hysterical.

The main character himself is okay and that oral sex joke worked as it was unexpected. The boss is such an amusing character. All of these characters are stupendously voiced by Parker, Stone and their crew and they took the best voices from their show which was awesome to witness. I just wish the movie had fewer and better developed characters as a whole.
Team America: World Police isn’t a musical per say, but it still has its fair share of musical numbers in the vein of ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’. They managed to successfully parody both Disney and particularly the eighties and I loved every single song here.
Everyone Has AIDS is typical for them, but still pretty good. America, Fuck Yeah and Montage are reliably strong and fitting their scenes so well whereas I’m So Ronery and The End of an Act steal the show for sure. The former is an absolutely hilarious parody of the North American former president with his way of speech and lyrics being exceptionally made fun of whereas the latter is the best of the bunch as they made fun of Michael Bay superbly and the song itself is both catchy and simply hilarious in its every line in lyrics. Such a good stuff.

Team America: World Police isn’t as polished or as hilarious as the best of South Park as I’ve already said, but it’s better than most of their recent seasons undoubtedly. This movie needs to be seen by more people as it’s so good and so damn entertaining. Yes, the first half is slower and less funny, but the second half is so awesome that it was worth it. The puppets themselves also look really good and their jerky movements to me even added more to the humor. I just wish the pacing and the characters were better.
Team America: World Police needed better characterization and the first half is weaker than the second one, but the movie is still classic Trey Parker and Matt Stone stuff with a terrific parody of US politics, Hollywood and action movies, many hilarious jokes and particularly effective musical numbers which are so funny in their lyrics.
