Swooner Crooner (1944)
Swooner Crooner Review
Swooner Crooner is a 1944 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very traditional cartoon.
But not in a good way. Yes, I don’t know what was going on in this year, but they started turning output which is in style and content a decade old and certainly not in line with their more contemporary classics. This short is just like yet another tiresome 1934 or so flick with some good moments of strength, but it’s mostly uninspired and weak.
Of course we got a WWII reference in the beginning and we get another chicken and hen story which is done to death by now. However, the music is actually very good with some very nicely chosen, fun numbers. Also, Porky’s role is fine and he is pretty good here while some of those hens and particularly that rooster stole the show in the finale.
Swooner Crooner has some solid scenes and humor, but it’s uninspired in setting and in plot.
