Sonic Prime Season 3 Review

The third season of Sonic Prime premiered on Netflix in 2024. It’s a solid season that features a strong ending, but for the most part it was repetitive and uneven.

My main issue with this particular season is its repetitiveness. The bulk of the episodes are concerned with battles and fighting that never end and almost all of them felt the same with the heroes losing and losing again and again until they finally inevitably win. I wished for more variety there.

This was at its worst during the middle section of the season where episodes blended into each other with no distinction or clarity. The entire show could have easily been one season as this storyline was too simple to support a three-season series.

With that being said, I still liked it because it ended on such a strong note. That finale was a lot of fun, it was energetic, and some scenes were quite heartwarming. Sonic’s arc was terrific and I liked seeing his growth as a person. Nine got some strong moments as well, but once again Tails and Knuckles were sidelined and Shadow was pretty much missing throughout, which was a real shame.

Sonic Prime looked great and the score is quite strong per usual. The animation is colorful and polished while the action scenes are well executed, though samey and forgettable for the most part. The pacing was terrible and the structure was awkward. I loved the first and the last episode, but the entire middle section was deeply flawed.
