Solid Avery Review

Solid Avery Review

Solid Avery is a 1947 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid cartoon.

Woody tries to steal eggs from a hen through various methods. One of them involves pretending to be a rooster. The second half was much more interesting than the first one. The movie was quite slow and uneventful, seriously lacking in energy at first. But then the rooster gag worked for me and it was a lot of fun.

Woody continues to be horrible. His hunger is ridiculous. His egg obsession produced some solidly amusing results here and I really liked the hen’s character. The classical music made the second half really pop, but I wished that the rest of it was as fun. The plot is slight and the lack of dialogue problematic.

Solid Ivory has a very weak first half, but the second half is pretty great. It’s a familiar, but amusing short.

My Rating – 3.8
