Sky Scraping Review

Sky Scraping is a 1930 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

As work begins on a high-rise building, Bimbo is too lazy and all he thinks about is getting some sleep. The crazy building structure goes straight into the sky and through the moon. This is one of the many cartoons released during the thirties that focused on building skyscrapers, which was only natural as this was the era when most big US scrapers were built. The result is a solid, but familiar short that failed to distinguish itself from others.

The animation is only serviceable, lacking in memorable or artistic backgrounds. The characters and most of the gags were also forgettable. Bimbo was quite uninteresting here. The highlight, though, was the film’s high energy and excellent music. That song that they repeat while climbing and building the scraper was a whole lot of fun.

Sky Scraping is not particularly memorable of exciting, but it does benefit from an excellent soundtrack.
