Silly Scandals (1931)
Silly Scandals Review
Silly Scandals is a 1931 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.
In a vaudeville act, Betty Boop (with dog’s ears) sings “You’re Drivin’ Me Crazy”. Bimbo sneaks into the show and runs afoul of a stage hypnotist. This movie benefits strongly from its main song that is such a good earworm. I loved every second of it and Betty’s singing was great.
Betty was here finally named, though she still did not get her surname. She was wonderfully used and quite memorable. But the highlight is Bimbo. He got a solid arc with the hypnotism subplot being so much fun in its surreal imagery. That trippy ending was particularly impressive. The movie’s animation is excellent, though I wished that the first half was as immersive as the second one was. It needed more screen time for that hypnotist guy.
