Show Biz Bugs (1957)
Show Biz Bugs Review
Show Biz Bugs is a 1957 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very strong, classic short.
There have been films about the rivalry between Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny before, but this one is among the best of this bunch. They are theater stars in this cartoon, but Bugs receives much more attention, so it is up to Daffy to resort to drastic measures in order to impress the crowd. The animation is gorgeous, the movie is very well paced and structured, and the final moment was both brutal and a great case of black comedy for the series.
While Bugs is clearly the inferior star of this short, it is Daffy who steals the show throughout in what is truly one of his best turns as a character. By now, he has become as obsessive and power-hungry as ever, and the short is at its best when focusing on his obsessive qualities. The beginning is hilarious with that money line being so funny while his dialogue in the entire movie is top-notch. The emphasis on both dancing and doing tricks made the short quite diverse.
