She Dies Tomorrow Movie Review

She Dies Tomorrow is a 2020 psychological horror film directed by Amy Seimetz and starring Kate Lyn Sheil. It’s an original, but not well executed movie.

Amy has a strange feeling that she will die tomorrow, and despite having no rational explanation, she remains utterly convinced. Somehow, her conviction that she will die tomorrow spreads contagiously through a town. The concept is great actually as it left a lot of room to explore some interesting themes.

However, the film itself did not explore these all that much. There is a lot of emphasis on existential crisis as the movie’s contagion clearly stands as a metaphor for said crisis. But beyond that, everything here is surface-level and the film’s characterization is very poor.

I did not care about any of these people. Though the acting was fine, the character development was beyond rough and the amount of time spent on so many different characters should have been better spread for a few main players, and that way the movie would have worked out much better.

She Dies Tomorrow does feature a solid visual style and some very memorable imagery here and there. Its disturbing premise and some hugely striking genre scenes did make the movie memorable, but the biggest problem here was the very slow pacing, an utter lack of any bigger dialogue and a strong focus. None of it was put on the table, resulting in a film that can boast of originality and some creepiness and strong style, but nothing more than that.

She Dies Tomorrow has a very original premise, some very effective genre sequences and a solid style to it, but the movie’s slow pace made it a far from engaging watch, the lack of dialogue was also frustrating and the focus should have been much stronger. It’s an authentic movie that needed a much better execution overall.

My Rating – 3
