Satan’s Waitin’ (1954)
Satan’s Waitin’ is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very unique short.
Sylvester dies and ends up in hell, but he has to lose all the rest of his nine lives too. The result is a lot of very authentic shenanigans centering on death and the concept of hell. The movie could have done even more with its awesome premise, but still this short benefits from some very fun sequences, especially the first one and the final line is also very amusing.
The animation is stellar here, especially hell, which looks fantastic. I particularly adored the use of the color red. Hector the Bulldog is in the role of Satan here and it was a genius idea that really paid off in terms of humor. Tweety only appears in a couple of scenes here and is amusing, but this is Sylvester’s show and he is so well utilized throughout. It’s a hugely entertaining movie that should have been longer in runtime.
Satan’s Waitin’ is a very unique hell-centered Looney Tunes short that makes a great use of both Sylvester and Hector the Bulldog.
