Runaway Brain (1995)
Runaway Brain Review
Runaway Brain is a 1995 Mickey Mouse short film. It is a rather disappointing modern film.
The evil scientist and his laboratory, the switching of the bodies and the brains etc. Everything in this premise sounds great, but the execution itself left a lot to be desired. As the penultimate Mickey Mouse short and the only one from the nineties, Runaway Brain is an oddity through and through. I did like its score quite a bit and the characterization is strong throughout, but everything else is lacking.
The humor is absent and the action is rather modernized and overly frenetic as is everything in this flick including the fast pace. It simply felt like a 90s cartoon which was a problem for me as the previous films from the eighties ‘Mickey’s Christmas Carol’ and ‘The Prince and the Pauper’ both felt timeless whereas this one was of its time way too much and thus it does not fit well with the rest of the series.
Runaway Brain is overly modern in approach and execution. The premise, characterization and score are great, but the animation, action and pace are too modern.
