Rabbit Hood ReviewRabbit Hood Review

Rabbit Hood is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a funny entry.

Bugs Bunny here makes a fool out of Sheriff of Nottingham. Little John is also in this film and he anticipates the arrival of Robin Hood who comes in the form of Errol Flynn from ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’. That cameo was brilliant as it was well incorporated not only into the animation, but also into the story. It was simply hilarious seeing Bugs’ disbelief at seeing him.

I liked all of the characters here, but admittedly the Sheriff did not get much to do as most of his first half felt subpar and not all that funny. What was funny with him was that dialogue exchange with Bugs which got progressively more ridiculous as it went on. Bugs is so funny and the film perfectly parodies English stuck up attitudes and this overall tale.

Rabbit Hood has a weaker first half, but the characterization is so strong and there are two sequences here which are simply brilliant.

My Rating – 4
