Private Eye Pooch Review

Private Eye Pooch Review

Private Eye Pooch is a 1955 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty fun flick.

Woody is prisoner at a taxidermy school, but when it is his turn to be used, he escapes. The guard dog is put in charge of retrieving him. This is an interesting short that doesn’t always work, but I respected it for being so different for the series. The titular dog is actually very memorable and their scenes together are a whole lot of fun. I liked his design and his sniffing superpower.

The second half lost me a bit as the gags there were much less effective and the movie lost the energy and fun factor of the first half. But the ending is quite cute and I liked how smart, but also ultimately caring Woody was in this one. The setting is also well utilized and the animation is solid.

Private Eye Pooch is a pretty different Woody Woodpecker short that has an interesting titular character and a fun dynamic between the two.

My Rating – 3.9
