Porky’s Road Race (1937)
Porky’s Road Race Review
Porky’s Road Race is a 1937 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty solid, but disappointing short.
This one gives us Porky in a race with famous celebrities from its time such as Charlie Chaplin and Boris Karloff. It is an interesting premise as celebrities being pitted against the protagonist in a car race has never been done before. So it makes the film unique along with the animation which is quite accomplished and with solid character design.
However, apart from Boris Karloff who is a memorable competitor here, others are very forgettable and underutilized. It’s a shame that such famous people were not fully utilized for laughs but that is exactly what happened here leading to a very flawed short.
Porky’s Road Race is a missed opportunity with a great animation and memorable Boris Karloff, but with others being forgettable.
