You Gotta Be a Football Hero Review

You Gotta Be a Football Hero is a 1935 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a weak entry that is one of the worst of the time.

Popeye is playing football along with Bluto whereas Olive is a cheerleader. The plot itself is mediocre and sport is a weird choice for a Popeye cartoon. I really disliked the plot here and found it to be forgettable. The action is also mostly uninspired with a couple of fine moments.

As for the characters, Olive is pretty good as usual, but Bluto is lacking unfortunately and is pretty forgettable here. Popeye is pretty good and that moment with Wimpy was incredibly short, but so sweet and so uproariously funny that it lifted this whole film to greater heights being the major highlight. The short is funny from time to time, but is mostly not. This is one of the weaker Popeye shorts of 1935 and one of the entries that disappointed me the most.
