With the Jeep is a 1938 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a very disappointing entry with a lot of wasted potential.
Here we are introduced with the Jeep who is a dog who can disappear. And he is the major problem in With the Jeep as he is never utilized particularly well and his powers had so much potential for a lot of humor, but aren’t used. Also, that tail wagging scene is obviously another missed opportunity for a joke about Popeye not liking Olive that I expected to come, but it never did.
It does have its moments in the second half with some good chase moments and the first act is really good and it intrigues you with this new character. Also the score is pretty good and quite memorable. But everything else is a very disappointing endeavor that left me wanting for so much more.
With the Jeep is a disappointing Popeye entry that never makes use of its new character properly and is just a wasted potential on all fronts.
