The Spinach Roadster (1936)
The Spinach Roadster Review
The Spinach Roadster is a 1936 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is such a funny, really entertaining entry.
The setting here is excellent and I loved the use of the cars as those are rarely present in Popeye the Sailor cartoons. But they were wonderfully incorporated here and I loved each of the three characters with Olive in particular being the highlight with her amusing talk. The action scenes are also really well executed.
Some of the scenes in the second half aren’t as great and the lack of score is problematic, but The Spinach Roadster is for the most part an excellent Popeye entry due to a terrific humor with its fair share of hilarious moments. The highlights are the scene in which the rock falls on Bluto and the conclusion with Bluto’s downfall is so good. The animation is also pretty good and I really adored this setting and action on the road.
The Spinach Roadster has a great setting, some memorable scenes, its fair share of funny moments and an excellent use of all the three characters.
