Plenty of Money and You (1937)
Plenty of Money and You Review
Plenty of Money and You is a 1937 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty problematic flick.
It follows the misadventures of a young ostrich and particularly his troubles with the weasel who wants to eat him. This is the kind of film that belongs more in the Silly Symphonies (most notably ‘The Ugly Duckling’)than in Merry Melodies owing to its message and animal-centric and cutesy plot. I thought the plot was fine despite its many shortcomings and plot holes.
I found the ending entirely forgettable and the fireworks gag is not that interesting. The film is not as funny as another ostrich themed Warners cartoon ‘Porky’s Pet’. It is lacking in comparison to that entry. But the animation is more than cute and competent enough that this ended up being a pretty solid flick.
Plenty of Money and You is lacking in logic and gags, but is cute and really well animated.
