Pistol Packin’ Woodpecker Review

Pistol Packin’ Woodpecker Review

Pistol Packin’ Woodpecker is a 1960 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid flick.

Woody Woodpecker, hot, hungry and thirsty, is walking across a dry, bleak western desert in yet another western-themed entry in the series. The movie is very well made in terms of animation, score and voice acting. The humor is solid, some of the gags worked and Woody is quite memorable himself.

The problem here is that, even though the setting was well utilized, we’ve seen it before many times in this same series, which made its impact blunted. It’s such a familiar tale that couldn’t differentiate itself from others of the same type no matter how solid it was.

Pistol Packin’ Woodpecker is a reasonably diverting and solid flick, but one that was too familiar in its setup to be more effective.

My Rating – 3.5
