Old MacDonald Duck Review

Old MacDonald Duck is a 1941 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very flawed short.

Donald has a farm where he feeds the animals while singing the titular song. I really liked the first half of this cartoon. This is where the singing and farm setting were charmingly old-fashioned. The animation was stellar per usual and the animals making sounds to accompany the song’s rhythm produced amusing results.

The second half, however, did not work for me. This is where Donald decides to torture this one small fly for no reason whatsoever. These Donald Duck movies work best when he is annoyed by something, but not when he is the one being the abuser and the perpetrator. The gags, thus, felt too harsh.

Old MacDonald Duck looks great and it has a solid first half, but a problematic and unfunny second one.
