No! No! A Thousand Times No! (1935)
No! No! A Thousand Times No! Review
No! No! A Thousand Times No! is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is one of the better entries in the series.
Betty Boop and Freddie appear on stage in a melodrama. Betty sings the title song to the villain as she tries to escape his advances. Eventually, Freddie rescues her. This was another stage-set melodrama and the best one so far in the series’ run. The familiarity was definitely setting in at this point and Freddie isn’t as memorable here as he was in some other flicks, but the action was thrilling and the animation was brilliant.
The flying balloon sequence featured gravity-defying stunts that were so funny and memorable. The villain is delightfully over-the-top here and there is this one terrific scene between him and Betty where she sings the fun title song and he tries to buy her with jewelry. That was the highlight in a movie that made great use of its setting. The animation and score worked in tandem to make for one stellar audio-visual experience and one of the most entertaining Betty Boop shorts.
