No Hunting (1955)

No Hunting Review
No Hunting is a 1955 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a pretty strong flick.
Donald, possessed by the spirit of his grandfather, a pioneer hunter, decides to participate in the hunting season. This was the rare example of a Donald Duck cartoon released during this era where the filmmakers fired on all cylinders. Not only is the animation stellar, but the score is actually memorable this time around, elevating the action on screen significantly.
No Hunting also benefits from a solid premise well executed. Really humorous situations were in short supply here, but at least the dialogue was strong, the narration was pretty good and some of the imagery was genuinely interesting. The ‘Bambi’ reference was fantastic. I really liked the grandfather character, though he needed more screen time to truly shine. The first half is a lot of fun and the second half is solid, but the ending could have been more effective.
