Mickey’s Elephant (1936)
Mickey’s Elephant Review
Mickey’s Elephant is a 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a solid, but not great flick.
It features Bobo the Elephant as Mickey’s new pet and a jealous Pluto who wants to attack the elephant with his miniature devil ordering him around. Now, this film is never particularly funny which is a problem, but the bigger problem is the character of Bobo who’s just a cutesy, forgettable character who’s just there and doesn’t do anything. Mickey’s also way too underused.
Pluto is great, but we’ve seen him be jealous before in his films. It’s not a particularly original film, but admittedly the formula still works thanks in no small part to the devil character who is excellent once again. He’s particularly funny, memorable and simply with a great voice to himself. Easily the highlight of this cartoon.
Mickey’s Elephant is well animated and the devil is terrific, but the titular elephant is forgettable and the plot is reused.
