Mickey Mouse and the House of Many Mysteries Review

Mickey Mouse and the House of Many Mysteries is a Disney comic that was published in 1946 under the Four Color Comics label (#116). It’s a pretty strong issue.

The titular story is the weaker of the two stories present in this comic book, but it’s still a very good one. Mickey and Minnie end up in a house where a lot of mysterious shenanigans happen. The characters in this story that we get to meet are underdeveloped, but all are unique and intriguing in their own right. The final confrontation was quite memorable, but the story was at its best when it was simpler as the beginning was pleasingly mysterious with that haunted ghost car. It’s such a fun, though flawed story that deserves extra props for its originality.

Goofy’s Prize Fight is the better of the two stories. This is your standard Goofy narrative where he is accidentally pulled into something and inadvertently excelling at it, this time around the name of the game is boxing itself. Goofy fights the champion successfully, but only when he is angry, so it is up to Mickey to orchestrate scenarios that make him furious enough to fight. Yes, this story is familiar, but it makes perfect use of the Goofy character and he is absolutely fantastic in it. The highlights were the funny boxing scenes and Goofy’s constant cluelessness.

Mickey Mouse and the House of Many Mysteries is a strong Mickey Mouse comic book that features a pretty good first story and an excellent second one.

My Rating – 4.2
