Mickey Mouse and His Sky Adventure Review

Mickey Mouse and His Sky Adventure is a Disney comic that was published in 1949 under the Four Color Comics label (#214). It’s a very good issue.

This comic only has one story. There is a second story, but it’s so short that it’s not worth discussing. But the titular story is an utter delight and one of the better stories in Mickey Mouse comics from the forties. There is one caveat to my praise here and that is the final section. This is where Mickey fights Black Pete and basically beats him senseless. It was fun, but way too unrealistic even for Disney.

But everything that came before that was just a joy to behold. Mickey encounters a flying car and eventually comes to meet his engineer, which is this typically German and overprotective scientist. The first moments were the best and most imaginative ones before the story became a bit more standard with the inclusion of Pete wanting to steal the flying car formula. The illustration work is gorgeous and the sky scenes were so wonderfully adventurous.

Mickey Mouse and His Sky Adventure has a weaker conclusion, but a very imaginative story and some great illustration work.

My Rating – 4
