Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers Movie Review
Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers is a 2004 direct-to-video animated film from Disneytoon Studios. It’s a pretty solid flick.

This is a Mickey Mouse version of this famous tale, and it mostly works in my opinion. The critics have made it seem that this is a bad film, but it’s not at all, especially not for the low direct-to-video standards. The story is definitely adventurous enough, though it can become too silly when it becomes too Disneyfied.
Mickey is very well utilized here and quite endearing throughout the film’s runtime. Donald Duck is per usual a lot of fun and the interactions between the trio continue to be infectiously entertaining and charming. Goofy is the standout this time around. His shenanigans stole the show from everyone else and I particularly liked his scenes with Clarabelle Cow, who is this time around at first a villain, but later she changed allegiances.
The only downside are the other female characters. Daisy and especially Minnie are basically female love interest stereotypes. They only talk about love and they were thus way too traditional, even in this fairy tale/period piece context. Pete, though, is excellent. He’s a terrific, capable villain here with his gang of henchmen also being quite memorable.
Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers has a soundtrack that consists of famous musical pieces, especially classical ones. I liked their renditions, but overall they weren’t anything special, and some of them got repeated way too often, leading to a repetitious feel to the movie. The animation is passable and colorful enough, but again nothing deserving of particular praise. The movie is short and fun enough, but it needed a better crafted storyline and more momentum to it.
