Mater and the Ghostlight is a 2006 animated short film. It is a Pixar short that was based on ‘Cars’.

Mater is being haunted by a blue light, which turns out to be a prank the others pull on him for revenge. I do realize that Mater is pretty much a despised character from the studio’s least-respected franchise, but I’ve never hated the guy personally and I actually found him to be a lot of fun.

It was only expected that they would make a short movie about the sidekick, which resulted in this flick being amusing albeit very slight in plot. I wished to see more characters from this universe, but at least Mater was quite funny. The premise of the prank to scare someone is very familiar, but it was solidly executed and Mater fitted this story so well. The animation is stellar and polished as usual.

Mater and the Ghostlight isn’t particularly memorable or original, but it works because it executes its premise solidly with Mater being well cast and fun in the main role.
