Marvin the Martian in the Third Dimension (1996)
Marvin the Martian in the Third Dimension Review
Marvin the Martian in the Third Dimension is a 1996 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.
Marvin the Martian mistakes Daffy Duck’s Duck Dodgers show, in which Dodgers announces that his forces are about to invade Mars, for a live broadcast and retaliates by going after Daffy, who still thinks they’re shooting the show. This movie was first released in 1996, but it then went on to become a ride at various theme parks around the world. I would love to experience the ride and be sprinkled by water whenever Daffy speaks. That would be awesome.
The movie works just as your regular short film. In fact, this is one of the best Looney Tunes released in the modern era. The 3D animation was actually terrific. Yes, it was very late nineties, but I have a soft spot for that early 3D animation, so those effects really worked for me, especially the effect of Daffy going toward the screen.
Daffy is very funny throughout and Marvin the Martian was excellent as well. K-9 was wonderful and that gag where he doesn’t use his own nose to hunt but a mechanical one was hilarious. Marvin and Daffy’s dialogue exchange was consistently fun and memorable. I wanted to see Bugs here and he would have fit the movie perfectly, but still I loved that Daffy got such a strong late cartoon for himself. It’s a longer than usual film for sure with the beginning being less memorable, but eventually it reaches greatness.
