Magician Mickey (1937)
Magician Mickey Review
Magician Mickey is a 1937 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is an amazing entry.
Mickey is a magician and he organizes a magic trick show where he eventually uses Donald for his tricks and basically humiliates him. Although Goofy is sorely underused here and the ending is forgettable, this short is otherwise tremendous in quality. Mickey is an asshole for sure, but it works in the context of the story. He destroyed Donald here to hilarious results.
Yes, this is a perfect premise for this chronically frustrated, angry duck. Watching him get sucked into the magic tricks was so funny and in particular the scene where he was annoyed by the first couple of tricks was hilarious. The film is very inventive in its action as the tricks are so well executed visually and conceptually. The animation is truly excellent as is the pacing of the film.
Magician Mickey truly is one of the best entries in the entire series thanks to a winning premise, gorgeous animation, superb and inventive action along with amusing Donald who’s never been funnier.
