Little Pancho Vanilla (1938)
Little Pancho Vanilla Review
Little Pancho Vanilla is a 1938 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such a standard flick.
Little Pancho Vanilla is an okay Merry Melody, certainly not bad as it is actually very well animated with a nice color palette to it and solid character designs. I also liked the score and how the film did not stereotype Mexicans all too much. It has a sweet ending and is overall serviceable.
But it just isn’t funny or entertaining enough and is rather boring actually. Its major problem is that it recycles the formula of the Silly Symphonies by having the protagonist have a dream which others disapprove of. So it features standard Disney storytelling, but that I do not expect from this Warner Bros. series plus this film never quite compares to the Disney films which are much better.
Little Pancho Vanilla features solid animation and it has good intentions, but it is rather boring and too much influenced by Disney.
