Jittery Jester Review

Jittery Jester Review

Jittery Jester is a 1958 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a weak short.

A stuffy king decides his jester Dooley is worthless and unfunny. He spots Woody pecking at a tree and singing, and decides he would make a great jester. Thusly, the king kicks Dooley’s unfunny ass out of the castle and orders him to fetch Woody. This is a very odd cartoon that only sporadically worked and often it did not work at all.

The king character was interesting, but Woody was seriously sidelined here. The movie’s period piece trappings were odd for the series and the animation was just okay. I appreciated its more serious and complex plot than usual, but the humor was lacking and the gags were just passable.

Jittery Jester has a solid plot and king character, but Woody was sidelined and the movie wasn’t all that funny.

My Rating – 3.4
