Is My Palm Read is a 1933 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty forgettable short.

For customer Betty Boop, psychic reader Prof. Bimbo conjures up an adventure on a haunted tropical island in his crystal ball. This flick started off promisingly. The baby Betty scene was cute and amusing. But then, the movie did not show us Betty’s future, which was very unfortunate and disappointing as it seemed to be setting it up in the beginning.

What we got instead was a made-up adventure on a tropical island, which felt too similar to ‘Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle’, but inferior and less memorable. The highlight was the ocean wave sexually harassing Betty. That was very funny and innovative in its animation. The ghost scenes were also pretty good, but overall both Betty and Bimbo weren’t used to their best advantages in this movie.

Is My Palm Read is a well animated and solidly diverting Betty Boop short. I just wish that it had a stronger and more original plot.
