I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead You Rascal You Review

I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead You Rascal You is a 1932 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a dated, but well scored short.

Betty Boop and friends meet Louis Armstrong on a jungle safari. This is one of those Betty Boop shorts that don’t feature that much of Betty herself, which was very disappointing. She is attacked by the cannibals and it is up to Koko the Clown and Bimbo to save her. The only valid reason to see and enjoy this cartoon is for the swinging music as it features the song from Louis Armstrong himself.

On the one hand, he was quite honored through this cartoon as he also got to appear in live-action and in the animated form, but on the other hand, his character was caricatured just like the cannibals themselves, which was highly offensive. The action was repetitious with the characters being chased by Armstrong’s head constituting most of the cartoon, thus making it trippy and also quite boring.

I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead You Rascal You has a terrific, groovy soundtrack and strong animation, but the plot is thin and the movie is repetitious and dated.

My Rating – 3.2
