Hypnotic Hick Review

Hypnotic Hick Review

Hypnotic Hick is a 1953 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty solid flick.

Thinking the woodpecker might want to seek mild revenge on Buzz, a law officer tells Woody he will pay him a dollar to serve Buzz with the summons. How Woody does this is through hypnotizing. It’s interesting that this is the first Woody movie to use hypnotization in its basic premise as you’d think that they would have done it much before. The end result is a movie that is a lot of fun even if its plot is nothing to be excited about.

The animation is stellar and polished, the sound is strong and the voice acting superb. Woody is pleasantly devious here, reminiscent of his earlier outings. Buzz is overly weak and easily defeated in this short, which was an issue. The gags also weren’t all that funny, but the short is reasonably diverting overall.

Hypnotic Hick is a fun short that is nothing special in plot and gags, but it’s solid in energy and memorable character moments.

My Rating – 3.8
