How a Mosquito Operates ReviewHow a Mosquito Operates Review

How a Mosquito Operates is a 1912 animated short film directed by Winsor McCay. It truly is a groundbreaking film.

The short follows a mosquito who lands on the head of a man and drinks his blood until bursting and dying because it drank too much. Yes, that ending is a great punch-line and was quite amusing and also what us the audiences cheered to happen so it’s great. But the rest of the film is also terrific as it portrayed, well, how a mosquito operates in a very realistic manner.

Some of the insect’s movements were unpolished, but mostly the animation is amazing for the year of 1912. The mosquito looks great, I loved his design, and the man also looks really good. The movie is too short, but thus very entertaining and highly amusing to watch while also being surprisingly creepy in a way. Winsor McCay established himself as the force to be reckoned with in the world of animation with this truly revolutionary work.

How a Mosquito Operates is so well animated, very entertaining and quite realistic in its portrayal of mosquitoes leading to one truly groundbreaking, incredible early animation.

My Rating – 4.5
