Hotel Transylvania 2 Movie Review
Hotel Transylvania 2 is a 2015 animated comedy film directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and starring Adam Sandler. It’s another very solid, underrated flick.

I actually found this sequel slightly better than its predecessor, and I continue to find this franchise highly underrated and needlessly trashed by the critics. Everything here is perfectly solid. Not great, but not bad either, so I cannot understand why anyone would hate it.
Mavis has a child in this sequel, and Dracula is frustrated that the child isn’t a monster, and that turns out to be a problem for the entire family. So yes, this is a very obvious, standard family storyline where the message is acceptance and proposing modernity and cooperation, but even though it’s obvious, it’s undeniably well executed in those morals, and very strong in the family interactions.
Mavis is fine here, though shortchanged. Johnny continues to be very annoying whereas Dennis is a cute little kid, and a solid emphasis is put onto him here to a good effect. Dracula continues to be such a wonderful, fun and complex character so superbly played by Adam Sandler that it really begs the question of why he doesn’t fully shift to voice work already as he’s much better at it. And I also loved Vlad as I found him to be quite amusing and a good source of plot’s drama.
Hotel Transylvania 2 features once again a colorful, very pleasing, and at times darker-colored animation. It’s constantly pretty to look at and very appealing, albeit nothing out of the ordinary nor particularly artistic in any shape or form.

What I absolutely hated about this movie is its soundtrack which is again overly modern, hip and just too loud. It appeared way too often, and it entirely took me out of it. The action can also get very overwhelming and dull. But some of it is fine, the dialogue is solid and the humor is actually quite respectable, especially for children. It should prove to be a great family diversion, and I personally had fun watching it as it flies by, but in a good way.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is a slight improvement upon its predecessor. It has a very annoying, overly modern soundtrack and the storyline is admittedly very clichéd along with its message, but it was undeniably well executed with solid humor and terrific character interactions. It’s another perfectly solid entry in this very underrated franchise.
