Giantland (1933)
Giantland Review
Giantland is a 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a terrific entry.
This is a Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation and the first Mickey Mouse entry to adapt it. This is one of those story-driven Mickey Mouse shorts which I love the most. The framing device with the kids could have been better and funnier, but the highlights are the scenes with the giant which are fantastic. He is so well designed and memorably creepy whereas Mickey is a wonderful hero here.
The animation is superb as the castle looks great as well as the beanstalk and especially the action scenes are superbly executed. The film is very adventurous and the highlight is the scene in the mouth which is highly influential for animation and quite authentic for its time. I loved how all of the items such as pepper were used and Mickey truly is at his best here.
Giantland definitely is an influential early adaptation of this famous story with terrific imagery and fantastic action scenes.
