Gabby’s Diner Review

Gabby’s Diner Review

Gabby’s Diner is a 1961 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty good cartoon.

In a Florida swamp, starving Gabby Gator has a little diner. When Woody passes by, he sets out to cook him by pretending that he is inviting him to a hotel. The only major flaw in this film is that Woody was so dumb. He is usually much smarter than this. He believed that he was in a hotel for way too long when it was extremely obvious what was going on.

Other than that, I loved this cartoon. The Gabby character is a very funny creation and his Southern accent was particularly amusing. The scenarios were very funny and actually quite smart at times – the oven sequence was brilliant. It’s a familiar premise for sure, but it’s so well executed that it managed to rise above that familiarity. The movie is immensely entertaining throughout.

Gabby’s Diner is another strong Woody Woodpecker short after the last one. It has its issues, but the scenarios and gags are much smarter and funnier than usual and the gator character is so much fun.

My Rating – 4.1
