French Rarebit ReviewFrench Rarebit Review

French Rarebit is a 1951 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a fun flick.

The movie is set in Paris, France. The two chefs argue over who wants to cook a rabbit, but of course Bugs makes a fool out of both of them. I found the first half not all that amusingly written as it lacked the humor and it was just a fine setup for the rest of the cartoon which is so much better.

The cooking sequences were very amusing, and quite detailed in terms of animation. I loved the various French puns here, and Bugs is so manipulative per usual in this short, and also very entertaining with his lines of dialogue. The two chefs are both very well designed, voiced and quite amusing with their accents and overall behavior.

French Rarebit benefits from a very strong humor, many fine lines of dialogue and good characterization.

My Rating – 3.4
