Each Dawn I Crow (1949)
Each Dawn I Crow Review
Each Dawn I Crow is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very weak flick.
Chided by a narrator, John Rooster thinks Elmer Fudd is going to slaughter him with an axe for Sunday dinner and is willing to do anything to prevent his hour of doom. How many times have we seen such a plot in a Merry Melody short? I think at least five or more even.
Yes, nothing here is original. I liked some of the dialogue and the narration as well as animation are both very strong. But the central character is forgettable, Elmer was entirely underused and the entire plot is very formulaic. Itβs the type of cartoon which really is tired for 1949 standards.
Each Dawn I Crow has good narration and animation, but everything else is familiar and uninspired.
