Dumb Bell of the Yukon Review

Dumb Bell of the Yukon Review

Dumb Bell of the Yukon is a 1946 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very entertaining cartoon.

After reading a letter from Daisy asking him to make fur coats for her, Donald goes bear hunting. He tries to capture a little bear, but has trouble with the mother bear. Donald actually wanting to hunt an innocent baby animal just to satisfy his girlfriend made him quite unlikable here, but thankfully the movie is far from dark and is actually very sweet and endearing. The premise is familiar, but the execution was so good that it elevated it successfully.

The little bear was so adorable here and how he annoyed Donald was funny. Donald being clumsy and disorganized was true to his character as was the decision to survive at all costs when the big bear arrived. That final sequence was a whole lot of fun. The movie flows well, it is very well animated and it’s a charming, if somewhat pedestrian watch.

Dumb Bell of the Yukon is a familiar, but very well made short that features a memorable Donald, a cute little bear and a very amusing ending.

My Rating – 4
