Dug’s Special Mission is a 2009 animated short film. It is a Pixar short that was based on ‘Up’.

Dug is sent on foolish missions by Alpha, Beta, and Gamma so they can hunt for the Bird of Paradise Falls by themselves. This is a wonderful short movie that acts as a highly satisfying prequel to 2009’s ‘Up’. That film never quite explained Dug’s backstory, so this short functions as a great companion piece that gives us a lot of insight into his life and personality.

Although extremely short and abrupt, the movie works because its first half is pleasantly goofy and diverting in its great Looney Tunes-inspired gags and action. The three dog villains being made fools by Dug never ceased to entertain me. The highlight, though, was that heartwarming ending that was amazing albeit rather abrupt. Dug finally getting masters that care for him and love him really touched me.

Dug’s Special Mission is a wonderful Pixar short that is rather abrupt, but very entertaining in its first half and quite moving in its ending. It’s a great prequel.
