Drunker Than a Skunk Review

Drunker Than a Skunk Review

Drunker Than a Skunk is a 2013 animated short film directed by Bill Plympton. It’s a well made, but slight short.

This flick is an adaptation of Walt Curtis’s poem about a cowboy town that torments the local drunk. This was a very interesting idea for a film. Adapting a poem is rare, so Plympton should be praised for even attempting to do it. The result is an original flick that is also gorgeously animated.

This style of subdued colors and chaotic movements really appealed to me and it fitted the narrative so well. But I would have personally gone without reciting the poem, but just doing a wordless version of it. The poem itself isn’t great or particularly interesting, but the imagery sold it well. It’s too short and slight overall, but it worked in the context of this filmmaker’s work.

Drunker Than a Skunk is visually appealing and an interesting experiment, though it did not fully work.

My Rating – 3.7
