Dough for the Do-Do (1949)
Dough for the Do-Do Review
Dough for the Do-Do is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a needless, but solid flick.
Yes, this film is a remake of 1938’s ‘Porky in Wackyland’. That movie was already a classic, one of the biggest of its period, so there was really no point remaking it in my opinion, especially when the end result isn’t as memorable or nowhere near as goofy. But it’s solid in its own right, I have to admit.
Being a color remake of a black-and-white short, it’s very appealing visually and I adored the colorful approach to it as well as imaginative character designs. Everything here looks and sounds great owing to terrific sound design. I found Porky somewhat less memorable, but the bird itself is so entertaining. The short is wacky in its own right, just not enough for me.
Dough for the Do-Do has great animation and sound, but overall the original remains a better cartoon.
