Don’s Fountain of Youth is a 1953 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a pretty solid flick.

Donald pretends to have become a baby by drinking from a fountain of youth to play a prank on his nephews. I am all up for this type of concept that sees Donald being the one pranking the nephews and not the other way around. And certainly the first half of this movie was fantastic. Donald was fully committed to playing the baby role and his facial expressions were truly priceless.

But then the movie had to go and include some gators for no reason at all and this is where it lost me sadly. The gags here worked to a degree and were solidly executed. The animation is also stellar throughout. But just not being able to focus on the nephews throughout was a fatal mistake to me.

Don’s Fountain of Youth has a great premise and a terrific first half, but the second half was lackluster.
