Donald’s Vacation Review

Donald’s Vacation Review

Donald’s Vacation is a 1940 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very fun short.

Donald has a hard time doing activities in the woods during his vacation. Yes, the poor Donald apparently can’t even go on vacation without some annoying stuff happening to him. In this short, he has troubles unfolding his chair, the chipmunks steal his food and eventually a bear chases him. The chair sequences were quite amusing and very well realized and Donald was at his funniest during that section.

The bear ending disappointed me as it was a bit too typical for this type of story, but the chipmunks were quite memorable. They apparently aren’t Chip and Dale, though they look exactly like them. The animation is absolutely gorgeous with a painterly quality to its natural landscapes. The forest and the lake looked stunning for sure. It’s a cozy, charming cartoon that made such a good use of Donald’s short temper.

Donald’s Vacation ended on a weak note, but it was otherwise a very entertaining cartoon with a memorable Donald and gorgeous animation.

My Rating – 4
