Donald’s Happy Birthday

Donald’s Happy Birthday Review

Donald’s Happy Birthday is a 1949 animated short film produced by Disney. It is a pretty good flick.

Huey, Dewey and Louie want to take the money they’ve saved to buy their Uncle Donald a present for his birthday, but Donald, unaware of their intentions, tries to stop them so they save the money for the future. This movie for a change has the nephews actually be good to Donald, though he only realizes that toward the end. I found their devotion to getting him a birthday gift commendable and quite touching.

They are the highlights in this short that is also well animated, very well executed in its scenarios and particularly charming throughout. Donald is also very endearing. The sleeping gag was excellent. I just wished for a stronger ending as the one that we got was very weak and dull. Way too often these cartoons don’t get their proper due in the final scene, which is a shame.

Donald’s Happy Birthday has a weak ending, but a strong premise and a very endearing tone made it a winner nonetheless.

My Rating – 4
