Donald’s Garden Review

Donald’s Garden is a 1942 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a middling cartoon.

Donald has a garden full of melons, which is invaded by a hungry gopher. This is one of the numerous cartoons starring a gopher causing problems. The gopher here is cute and feisty enough, but lacking the personality necessary to make him more memorable. The animation is stellar per usual, but the score is forgettable.

The movie is at its best when it’s focusing on the gopher tricking and making fun of poor Donald. He is quite amusing when he loses his temper and there is one scene here where he exploded to particularly funny results. However, most of the gags were repetitious here and the movie was concerned way too much with setting the scenario up and not delivering afterward. The ending was especially lackluster.

Donald’s Garden has a very weak ending and a lack of more memorable gags, but it looks good and Donald has a couple of fun scenes.

My Rating – 3.5
