Donald’s Double Trouble (1946)
Donald’s Double Trouble Review
Donald’s Double Trouble is a 1946 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is one of the best shorts in the series.
When Daisy wants Donald to change his personality, he hires a double to make it look like he’s changed for the better, but the double soon invades Donald’s territory. This is what I’m talking about. The series needs more of these brilliant and yet simple concepts that just work. Donald has a rival here and he is fantastic. This guy is suave and has a British accent and most of his lines were hilariously posh and gentlemanly. The differences between the two are vast and thus quite funny when juxtaposed together on screen.
Donald gets to be quite angry here and that final sequence is very entertaining with Daisy becoming angry herself. The animation is stellar and the movie got a great use of the amusement park and its various rides. Even more could have been done with this premise and I would have liked to have seen Daisy more here and how she would react to the realization if it arrived earlier. But still this is a strong cartoon that is particularly humorous with the gay jokes when Donald seemingly also fell in love with his doppelganger.
