Donald and Pluto (1936)
Donald and Pluto Review
Donald and Pluto is a 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a weaker flick.
Although belonging in his series, Mickey himself is nowhere to be found here and that is the first for the series. It’s also the first cartoon starring the titular two characters. Although they are amusing, I never really found the match-up inspired or fitting. The short itself features pretty typical overly extended action sequences based on familiar cartoon situations such as being stuck in an object etc.
But the finale is great with the dog licking Donald. I found Pluto endearing here and Donald definitely has his reliably memorable angry outbursts. Both are solid, but together they aren’t the best combo. The animation, though, is excellent per usual and the action is very well executed, even though it’s not inspired.
Donald and Pluto has its moments and the titular characters are endearing, but they’re not the best combo and the action is underwhelming.
