Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur (1939)
Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur Review
Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur is a 1939 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a disappointing flick.
It is set during the Stone Age where we follow one caveman fighting with Daffy Duck. The first line of the cartoon, the written one, is hilarious. I also really liked that ending as again it was quite memorable in those two lines. The animation is particularly strong in this one – polished and with pleasing colors and character design. The score is also quite solid.
However, the film is one of the weakest Daffy Duck outings so far as it lacks strong humor and Daffy himself is rather restrained this time around. Surely the beginning, the billboards and the ending are funny, but the rest of the cartoon is lacking in the humor department. The caveman is quite forgettable himself and that dinosaur is thoroughly underutilized and unnecessary.
Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur has a couple of very amusing scenes, but is not up to the standard of this duck’s filmography.
